Cupid & Psyche - “Angels On The Phone”
Do you remember Abe Vigoda? I’m not referring to the immensely talented character actor, who sadly passed away in 2016 at the age of 94. Instead, I’m talking about the 2000s LA post-punk band Abe Vigoda, who released a string of great records in a five-year period including the frenetic Kid City (2007) and the gothier Crush (2010). Recently, two of Abe Vigoda’s members, Michael Vidal and Juan Velasquez, joined forces again to launch a decidedly different-sounding project called Cupid & Psyche. This is all synths, electro-beats, and melancholic atmospheres.
“Angels On The Phone” has a futuristic, synth-driven feel to it with sonic textures that evoke scenes from Bright Lights, Big City and Less Than Zero. Those are two prominent 80s novels/films and that’s not a surprise, as this song seems heavily influenced by the electronic music of that era.
