Cancelled Tour Zine

Look At My Records! favorites No Swoon put together an excellent zine that features interviews and other written pieces highlighting the bands and artists that they were scheduled to tour with before COVID-19 put a stop to live music. The zine includes a full-page interview with Tom, where he talks about the Brooklyn Block Party SXSW showcase that he planned with Bloodless Management, Bands do BK, and Atlas Engine that sadly never happened:

We wanted the showcase to primarily feature our favorite Brooklyn artists, so we billed it as the Brooklyn Block Party. We were so excited for it to happen, but unfortunately, COVID got in the way. We’re hoping to revive it for 2021!

The zine also includes pieces on Cindy Cane, Dehd, Tallies, Interlay, Mild Cats, Ears to Feed, and more!

Check it out via No Swoon’s website. All proceeds from the zine benefit NIVA - National Independent Venue Association.

Connor Frost Interviews Tom About The Story Behind Look At My Records!

Ever wondered how Look At My Records! got started? Well, life coach Connor Frost interviewed Tom about the origins of the podcast, the process behind putting together an episode, and more for his website’s #FridayFeature series! Tom also gave advice on how to start a podcast and reveals the first record he ever purchased with his own money:

I think the first vinyl record I ever purchased on my own was “New Day Rising” by Hüsker Dü.  I had just finished college and at the time vinyl was picking back up, so I started adding to a collection that I inherited from my Uncle and my parents’ record collection, which they basically gave to me. “New Day Rising” is probably my favorite Hüsker Dü album. It’s the perfect midpoint during their transition from a hardcore band to writing poppier, more melodic material.

The Mckenzie Tapes featured on Slicing Up Eyeballs

Thanks to Slicing Up Eyeballs for the great feature on The Mckenzie Tapes. Check it out here.

The site is the work of Tom Gallo, a New Jersey music enthusiast who hosts the Look at My Records! podcast, as well as a show on Radio Free Brooklyn on Saturday afternoons. He acquired the tapes from David McKenzie, a former Maxwell’s employee, and the recordings largely span 1985 to 1993 — not only from Maxwell’s, but other New Jersey and New York City venues, too.
