Dusk - “Pissing In A Wishing Well”
It’s been a few years since Appleton, Wisconsin’s Dusk released their stellar self-titled debut. That record was good enough to hold me over for five years (note: they did release a great record with R Boyd in 2020), even though that time frame is an eternity as far as modern album cycles go. But seriously, it was that good and frankly, quite unique. At that time, few bands were combining a rugged, classic country sound with slacker indie rock aesthetics like they were, so the band’s distinct concoction struck a chord.
“Pissing In A Wishing Well” preserves much of the charm heard on the band’s debut. The anthemic, soaring guitars burst through the front door immediately, inviting a stirring rhythm section to whisk the track away. The chorus, which features gang vocals and chiming piano, hammers home the song’s overall theme of “wishing you were somewhere else in life, whether that be physically or emotionally.”

“Pissing In A Wishing Well” will appear on the band’s forthcoming second full length, Glass Pastures, which is set for release in October. You can pre-order the record on vinyl via Bandcamp. Keep up with Dusk by following them on Instagram.
