Couch Prints - "Impressions"
Tell U, the debut EP by Brooklyn synth-pop trio Couch Prints, kept us grooving during the early days of the pandemic. The band returned last week with an infectious new tune called “Impressions,” their first new music since 2020. Oh, and we heard they put on quite the show at Berlin in Manhattan on Thursday night to celebrate its release.. and they just announced a series of tour dates today. So, there’s definitely more where that came from.
Like the six songs on Tell U, “Impressions” is an immersive track steered by a wave-like rhythm and full-bodied synthesizers that act as its backbone. Frontperson Jayanna Roberts’ vocal stylings are both languid and commanding relative to the setting. They settle in comfortably amongst the song’s gorgeous synth textures in the choruses, but serve as the crux of the verses, tying together lighter instrumentation. Thematically, the song captures the emotional highs, lows, and “the fear” that accompanies “falling for someone new.”
