Mary Hood - "Come Back Earth"
After not releasing any music for a few years, Hudson Valley/Brooklyn artist Mary Hood reemerged in 2021 with a track called “Lake Sebago,” a flowing indie-folk rumination on a blossoming romance. Hood is keeping things moving in 2022 with the release of a great new song called “Come Back Earth,” which dropped last week.
“Come Back Earth” is simultaneously tranquilizing and attention-grabbing. The track is built off of Hood’s wispy finger-picking with other little details that sprout up and provide support as the song progresses. The band quickly introduces some nice flourishes of auxiliary percussion, but it’s just a sweet little taste before the main course. The sonic flood gates open shortly thereafter, as some shuffling, off-kilter percussion and crescendoing, interlocking electric and acoustic guitar dynamics take control, giving the song’s center some serious vitality. Hood is, of course, an intriguing vocalist with a careful diction that lands softly. Her words nimbly dance around all of the track’s dazzling instrumental accents. You’ll definitely want to give this one a series of listens.
Mary Hood recently shared a video for the single, which you can watch below.
