En Attendant Ana - "Principia"
Parisian outfit En Attendant Ana are perhaps the current crown jewel of indie pop. Their saccharine sound is endearingly reminiscent of their Sarah Records and C86 predecessors and if you’re a fan of the prominent acts of that ilk, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any gripes with En Attendant Ana. They’ve developed a mastery of quaint, guitar-driven pop music that’s equal parts jangly and dreamy. In addition to their ear wormy instrumentation, Frontperson Margaux Bouchaudonm has a charming and profoundly melodic voice that further elevates the group’s sound. Their strengths coalesce on their latest release, “Principia,” which sees the quintet broadening their sonic horizons.
On “Principia,” the band seems to be unwinding a bit more than in the past and being less subtle in their presentation. Unlike the uptempo anthems that made up the majority of their last full length, Juliet, “Principia” feels more melancholic and pensive - with all elements strongly standing on their own two feet. The steady pace allows their guitars to radiate and ring out clearly, while Bouchaudon delivers words with crystalline aplomb. It’s introspective, jangly, and deliberate - the perfect recipe for an indie pop classic.
The band shared a track and field-themed music video to go along with the song, which you can watch below.
“Principa” is the lead single and title track from En Attendant Ana’s third full length, which is set for release on February 24th via Trouble in Mind. You can pre-order the record on limited edition peach-colored vinyl via Bandcamp. You can also check out the band’s music on Spotify. Keep up with the band by following them on Instagram.
