Gnawing - "So Glad"

I’ve been listening to the Lemonheads a lot over the last few months. Evan Dando’s melodic power-pop prowess is nothing short of addictive and tends to inspire a lot of repeat listens for me, particularly the feel good and ear-wormy early tracks on Come On Feel The Lemonheads. Richmond, Virginia’s Gnawing share a similar penchant for those classic, hard to resist guitar hooks that the Lemonheads mastered in the 90s, but they lace it with a bit of fuzz and a dash of twang. You can hear this mix loud and clear on their 2020 debut 7-inch Shaky, and the trio keeps those fuzz-pop hooks flowing on their latest single, “So Glad.” There’s definitely a vintage charm to the track that flows through its thick bass line and perfectly jangly guitars, and frontman John Russell’s straightforward, but sweet lyrics definitely add another dimension of sunshine to an already bright tune. Its got me buzzin’ for sure.
