The Natvral - "New Moon"

The Natvral - "New Moon"

Since going solo after his former project The Pains of Being Pure At Heart called it quits, Kip Berman has moved in a more folk-oriented direction under the moniker The Natvral. The songs on his 2018 debut EP, Know Me More, were hauntingly straightforward, stripped down, and personal, demonstrating his ability to alter his musical colors and morph stylistically without missing a beat. Early last month, he shared “Why Don’t You Come Out Anymore?,” the lively first single from his forthcoming full length, Tethers, and last week, he shared its second offering, “New Moon.”

On his latest single, Berman gets a bit pensive and imaginative - letting his words take center stage. Against a sparse background of delicate guitar finger picking, he reflects on the failed relationship of a friend, who moved on from a poor, kind-hearted musician to an individual who offered more financial stability, and tries to picture how it played out. The song’s dressed down instrumentation allows the narrative pieced together by Berman’s Dylan-esque croon to clearly unravel, as he artfully illustrates a fading love and the coinciding farewell. The song is anchored by a particularly powerful chorus, where Berman adds a little more vocal girth through some beautiful harmonies, and shares some aching words that acutely convey a sense of loss: “oh it’s time to save what’s left of your life, you’ll survive another night.”

Berman also shared a great video to go along with the track, which you can watch below.

“New Moon” is available to stream on all platforms. It’s the second single from The Natvral’s forthcoming debut full-length, Tethers, which is set for release on April 2nd via Kanine Records. You can pre-order the record on limited edition vinyl via Bandcamp.
