Baby & Dynamite - "Friday Nite"
New York City duos don’t get much better than Baby & Dynamite, the project of scene veterans Cameron Castan and John Morisi. The two artists have been friends and collaborators for quite some time, with Morisi providing his drumming talents to the Castan-fronted goth-punk outfit Whiner for the last half decade. Both Whiner and Morisi’s solo project, Johnny Dynamite and the Bloodsuckers, had big years, as each released excellent full lengths, and now they’ve managed to squeeze out one more track for their Baby & Dynamite project before 2021 comes to a close.
Their latest single, “Friday Nite,” was a surprise release, arriving on streaming services last week. Similar to their last track, “Dead Fred,” the song is a bit of a darker dance track, combining the eerier lyrical themes of Whiner with the kind of goth-pop beats that Castan and Morisi are well versed in. They work in lots of shimmering sounding synths, particularly in the song’s early stages, and dig their heels in deep on some mesmerizing grooves.
