Arverne - "Nevermind"
Arverne, the moniker of Queens-based of songwriter Rickey Gonzalez, just dropped a seasonally appropriate four-song EP to get us through the dog days of July. The project’s self-titled debut features several melodically engaging lo-fi pop tunes that are flush with meticulously crafted guitar lines in a chillwave inspired style that’s reminiscent of Craft Spells and Heavenly Beat.
In particular, Arverne captures the smooth haze of a lazy summer afternoon on the EP’s third track, “Nevermind.” Amongst a sea of washed-out guitars and a surfy bass line, Gonzalez ruminates on a confusing relationship: “think it over again / did i even think at all? / don't think i did, oh well.” The hooky, oscillating riffs and Gonzalez’s tinny vocals on “Nevermind” perfectly combine for a dreamy sounding, reverb-heavy tune that embodies a lulling, mid-summer vibe. It’s the type of song that’s meant to soundtrack those afternoons chilling aimlessly in your backyard or on your couch with the window AC blasting.
“Nevermind” appears on the band’s just-released self-titled EP, which is available to stream on Spotify. You can also purchase the EP via Bandcamp. Follow the band on Instagram.
