Extra Special - "I Hate Love"

Extra Special - "I Hate Love"

Last month, we were excited to share “True Fear,” the debut single from Extra Special, and we can’t get enough of the second single, “I Hate Love,” which dropped last week. The new project from Amelia Bushell of Grim Streaker is sonically more dreamy and dazzling in the vein of her former project Belle Mare, with lyrics that are earnest and vulnerable.

“I Hate Love” focuses on intense heartbreak and the lessons learned from experiencing love and loss. With a gorgeously dense backdrop of glistening synths and ringing guitars, Bushell sings of the early stages of unrequited romance - the times when you’re stalking the object of your affection online and wondering if they’re doing the same, to the bitter endings, where you realize that the one you love doesn’t share the same feelings and you’re left “repeating their name into the sky” in hopes that they’ll come around.

“I Hate Love” will appear on Extra Special’s forthcoming debut EP, Lazy About It, is due out October 23rd. Bushell produced the EP with Gary Atturio. Her backing band features Sharif Mekawy on synths and Louis Cozza on drums. Keep up with Extra Special by liking them on Facebook and following them on Instagram. You can purchase the track via Bandcamp or stream it on Spotify.
