Gustaf - "Mine"
If you’re in tune with New York City music, you’re probably at least vaguely familiar with Gustaf, which is kind of shocking, as they haven’t officially released any music until last week. The group, led by Lydia Gammill, has generated considerable buzz since their formation back in 2018 due largely in part to their engaging and frenetic live performances, which we are missing terribly right now!
Two years later and their first single, “Mine,” lives up to the hype. With its angular guitars and fluid rhythm, the track bristles with the type of twitchy energy that you can expect to experience at one of their live shows. They lock in a serious, thundering low-end groove that persists amongst Gammill’s halting vocal delivery, as she sarcastically sings about an individual who feels unjustifiably attacked. For any band that’s known for their energetic performances, it’s important to translate that in the studio setting, and without question, Gustaf achieves that on their debut single. So, for the time being, turn this track up loud and cross your fingers that gigs return sooner rather than later.
The band also shared a video for the track, which you can stream below.
“Mine” is available for pre-order on limited edition red vinyl via Royal Mountain Records. The single is also available on all streaming platforms. Keep up with Gustaf by liking them on Facebook and following them on Instagram.
