Jacob Tremont - "pisces"
Hoboken’s Jacob Tremont writes music that examines the intricacies of the human condition. His 2022 debut full-length, junebug, featured songs that were rife with heady experiences conveyed in the form of direct, personal narratives. Stand out tracks like “annabelle” chronicled a post-breakup existential crisis, the kind where feelings of rejection cause you to second guess yourself, your purpose, and your actions. Other songs like “diner” and “montana” painted charming portraits of warm (sometimes New Jersey-specific) memories. His dulcet vocals and feather-light guitar played the perfect supporting role in setting these scenes.
Tremont expands on some of the themes found on junebug with his latest single, “pisces,” while continuing to back his words with a colorful, folk-inspired palette. Opening with sparse, deliberate guitar playing and pointed lyrics, the song then sprawls into a stirring full-band affair. Tremont turns the focus of his words towards concepts of mindfulness and attempting to pull yourself up from a downward trajectory.
Tremont shared the following about the track:
“pisces” is the first release for a sophomore album based around constellations and various energies of self-change. The song is about choosing to live with sometimes reckless abandon. It is an existential kick in my own butt to escape a slow spiral into dissociation. The song arcs from trembling on the edge of emptiness - to a final exclamation for salvation by viscerality.
