The Blips - "Stay Up"
The Blips’ sound is a unique concoction. Their formula goes a little bit like this: take just a bit of country twang, some larger-than-life power pop hooks, a whole lot of down-home rock and roll heart, and a dash of guitar fuzz. Mix them all together and you’ll form the essence of the band’s music. Their debut self-titled album was full of songs in this mold, from the anthemic open chord strumming of “Walking Home“ to the endearingly Petty-esque “Gold Rush.” It’s the kind of music that’ll make you feel happy… and on top of that, it’s made by a group of dudes who sound like they genuinely enjoy making it. That kind of vibe is contagious, and for fans of brighter-sounding guitar music, what more could you really ask for? I’d estimate not much!
Today, Look At My Records! is excited to premiere “Stay Up,” the latest offering from the Birmingham, Alabama quintet. Like their previous releases, “Stay Up” will elevate your mood from the very first note and keep it sky-high for the duration of its two-minute runtime. That can be largely attributed to its sound, which leans more into classic punk territory, with a catchy chorus, punchy guitar riffs, and feel-good lyrical subject matter that evokes early Ramones. You’ll be singing the refrain, “I wanna stay up ‘til the sun comes up,” until the break of dawn.
