Phranque - "Mahalo"

Phranque - "Mahalo"

The eccentric New York City songwriter known as Phranque has been really plugging away in recent months. He’s been quite prolific since Frank Gallo, the man behind the moniker, resurrected this persona following an extended hiatus. After not performing solo for years, Phranque performed at the farewell show for Brooklyn’s Def.GRLS. That one gig got his creative juices flowing and he spent the first year of the pandemic at home recording an epic 13-song album called 13 (La Cosa Nostra). But that was just the beginning, as he has an EP, a full length, and a few videos ready to go, including one premiering here today.

We’re excited to premiere the video for “Mahalo.” Inspired by Phranque’s first post-COVID trip to the Hawaiian islands, both the song and video have a trippy, tropical undercurrent flowing through them. The visuals are definitely psychedelic, but also have an element of sentimentality, as any self-respecting millennial will recognize the prominent placement of an Olmec-looking figure. For all you noobs, that’s the big talking rock from the smash-hit Nickelodeon game show Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Stream the video below.

“Mahalo” will appear on Phranque’s forthcoming full-length, Mahalo Chicago, which is out in May. That album, along with 13 (La Cosa Nostra), his 2021 single “Love Bomb,” and an EP 101.3 K- Rock New York will be available on a limited-edition deluxe cassette. You can check out all of Phranque’s music via Bandcamp or Spotify. Keep up with him by following him on Instagram.
