DD Island - "F.A.T.F."
Last week, Nashville’s DD Island dropped their debut EP Scaphoid, a fast and scrappy five song garage rock ripper. When we premiered “Get High,” the lead single from the EP back in February, we shared a bit of interesting background on the man behind the project, Brandon Rhodes, and how he originally conceived these songs while performing all instruments as a one man band on tour. The songs definitely have the kind of high-strung energy that could only be born out of the flurried chaos of a one-man band, and a stand out example of this is the brash, yet melodic “F.A.T.F.” Today, the project is sharing a video for the track and we’re excited to premiere it on Look At My Records!
There’s a thick wall of fuzz that dominates on “F.A.T.F.,” but for all the brash noise that’s present, Rhodes allows his sweet, surfy vocal melodies to pierce the veil. The moments between verses feature drumming that’s extra propulsive and an uptick in energy that sounds like it’s driven by brute-force. It’s two minutes and five seconds of uproarious garage rock fury.
The accompanying video starts by filling us in on what the acronym “F.A.T.F.” stands for, which is Fuck All The Fear. Damn straight. The video then proceeds to capture shots of a dog and the inside of a pet store before maniacally and frantically shifting from different shots of various different fish tanks in a manner that follows the track’s tempo.
