Dylan Pyles - "Unity Temple"
We’re excited to premiere “Unity Temple,” the latest track from Kansas City’s Dylan Pyles. It’s the second single from the songwriter’s forthcoming record, A Train Called Solitude, which is set for release on May 28th via Missouri imprint Manor Records. It’s Pyles third album in three years, following 2019’s Popular Songs for the Heart and 2020’s Evil Music for an Ugly World.
“Unity Temple,” has a rugged, down-home feel to it with a lyrical focus that reflects a longing for emotional connection and empathy from someone who knows the trouble you’ve seen. Pyles’ bare-bones guitar work nicely complements his yearning words, which describe his desire to commiserate as one with the object of his affection, something he references in the choruses by singing “Darlin’, I just wanna brood with you.” Pyles’ voice sounds whiskey-soaked and he sprinkles in some weeping and twangy guitar riffs to match that mood, and they eventually take complete control, serving as the dominant force behind the bridge to the final chorus. It’s here that he once again reiterates his desire to share the hard times with someone who knows how he feels, or as he puts it nicely puts it, “I wanna take a shot at the moon with you / Share a little of the gloom with you.”
