Cassandra Jenkins - "Michelangelo"

Cassandra Jenkins - "Michelangelo"

Brooklyn songwriter Cassandra Jenkins is kicking off the new year with a brand new single called “Michaelangelo,” a light and airy tune that’ll help you easily transition out of the hellscape that was 2020. The smoothly composed track combines graceful sounding guitars with some heavier lyrical content, as Jenkins addresses the lingering, recurring nature of past traumas.  The song’s early stages sound simple and organic, as her wispy voice floats above faint electric guitar strums. Jenkins then injects a little fuzz into the song with a quick, distorted riff around the halfway mark, but it soon gushes into a gorgeous string section, a driving beat, and more of Jenkins’ delicate singing. This mid-point establishes a clear sonic line of demarcation that splits the song into two parts, and her words follow suit, gaining more power and potency in the closing moments.

Jenkins also shared a cool video for “Michaelangelo,” which follows her in slow motion through Central Park. The video primarily captures her from the perspective of her bicycle handlebars, but also includes several shots of a dog crossing the street, and towards the end, interposes shots of Michaelangelo’s David sculpture.

Stream the video below! The song is also available on all streaming platforms. Keep up with Jenkins by following her on Instagram and liking her on Facebook. “Michaelangelo” will appear on her forthcoming album An Overview on Phenomenal Nature, which is scheduled for release on February 19th via BaDaBing! Records.
