Lady Bits - "Lose The Thread"

Lady Bits - "Lose The Thread"

If you’re looking for one final swift kick in the ass to close out this marathon year that kicked all of our asses, then give the new EP from Brooklyn’s Lady Bits a spin. Written and recorded over the course of the last year, Lose The Thread channels the chaos of 2020 into a catchy, fuzz-fueled five-song collection that’ll have you stomping right along while pondering some of the deeper concepts addressed through its lyrics.

There’s a feeling of frustration present on Lose The Thread - one that results from examining the complexities of our relationship with time, how we experience it, and the heavy lifting that comes with attempting to better understand it. It’s difficult to comprehend how time can seem so fluid, but can also slow to an excruciating crawl in so many instances. The opening track, “Plastic Furniture,” explores the latter, as it revisits one of those long, uneventful summer days that hazily blends into the others, while the penultimate song, “C’mon Baby,” tackles the former by detailing an eerie nightmare about a former flame that fizzled out too fast. Their distorted guitar melodies and edgy hooks guide us on a trip that’s filled with these types of ups and downs, making additional stops in a far-out dream realm on “Color of Time,” and turning a bit more inward on “Look Out,” a song that may induce shout alongs thanks to its infectious call and response vocals. Lose The Thread concludes with an epic tune called “New.” Clocking in at just over five minutes, frontperson Krishanti Daryanani uses her driving guitar riffs to bolster the song’s uplifting message of perseverance. And though the album explores how time can be fickle, the final message on “New” is that it’s not our master. So, heed Lady Bits’ advice as we enter 2021 and know that “you are new.”
