Holy Tunics - "Rocket To The Alien Planet"

Holy Tunics fondly reminisce about wide-open desert highways on their new video for “Rocket To The Alien Planet.” 2019 seems like eons ago, but back then bands played gigs, went on tour, and released records.  Well..bands are still releasing records these days, but the pandemic has obviously created a crater-like void when it comes to live music.

Following the release of their second album Hit Parade Lemonade Supersonic Spree, the Brooklyn quartet set out on a tour of the west coast. It looks like frontman Nick Rogers brought a camcorder with him, as the video pieces together different sights along the way: trucks, dirt roads, barren mountains, and the beautiful Pacific Ocean. It’s sure to get you nostalgic for a number of activities, including driving in unfamiliar territory and hanging out with your bandmates.

As far as the song goes, you know I dig it!  The song takes off like a rocket with buzzing guitars that accelerate steadily until they burst into the punchy first verse. It’s a fun, upbeat summery sounding track with lyrics that touch on extraterrestrials and the like. I’ve been obsessively listening to Fountains of Wayne’s self-titled debut this summer and Nick Rogers definitely has a similar knack for creating infectious guitar hooks in his choruses.

Stream the video below. If you missed out on Hit Parade Lemonade Supersonic Spree last summer, now is the perfect time to get acquainted with it.  You can purchase it on vinyl via Meritorio Records or stream it on your platform of choice, including Spotify.
