Coco Verde - "Ghost Romances"

Listening to Coco Verde’s music just makes you feel great. Their melodic rhythms and smooth grooves evoke a distinctly sun-soaked, retro psychedelic pop sound and their charming personality captures the eclectic spirit of North Brooklyn. The band formed in 2018 while working at a South Williamsburg burger joint called Blue Collar and they’ve been having fun playing music ever since. Their 2018 debut EP, Marathon, is still in my regular rotation, and last week they added a new song called “Ghost Romances” to their growing discography.

“Ghost Romances” sees the band incorporating some darker sonic elements, honing in on more of a dream-pop sound with reverb-soaked vocals, big sounding synths, and an electronic beat.  The lyrics also center on heartbreak, another change when compared to sweet, love-filled tracks like “Clara” and “Savannah.” The band sounds confident and poised exploring this new territory, though, showing their versatility and promise for creating fresh sounding, dynamic music. 

“Ghost Romances” is available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify. The song is also a part of the recently released COVID Compilation, which you can purchase via Bandcamp.  All proceeds benefit Heart to Heart International.
