HNRY FLWR - "Waiting Room"
Words by Zach Romano.
Ridgewood, Queens “Sunshine Goth” crooner HNRY FLWR has released an evocative new video to accompany his single “Waiting Room,” released earlier this year. FLWR is a showman as well as a songwriter, and anyone who has seen him perform live knows that there is a visual/theatrical element to his act that just listening to his songs does not fully get across. This video presents the full picture of what he does.
“Waiting Room” is a post-punk glam anthem that could be Alex Cameron fronting Ought – check Tom’s review of it here. The video sees FLWR channeling Paul Dano’s There Will Be Blood preacher via Robert Smith and cuts repeatedly between the purgatory of what looks to be a room in a 19th-century farmhouse and the escape of a gorgeous ocean scene. The song is written to an undefined “you,” but FLWR is completely and conspicuously alone in the video. Could he be singing to the viewer, or to himself?
