Kat Hamilton - "Recovery Songs"

Kat Hamilton - "Recovery Songs"

Recovery Songs, the debut full length from Los Angeles-based songwriter Kat Hamilton, is out today! The record comes at a key point in the veteran artist’s life and career, as it’s her first release since her departure from east pop-punk outfit Manic Pixie and beginning a long road to recovery.  Her battles with addiction play a central role on the album, which has an eclectic sonic palette.

The album deftly melds an array of genres but focuses on two in particular that may not seem like a match: emo and country. In reality, deep down, they both share similar key characteristics that make their songs compelling, like heart on your sleeve lyricism and straightforward instrumentation that allows the narrative to serve as the focal point. On Recovery Songs, Hamilton displays an affinity for gripping stories, like a traumatic encounter with an ex on “Ohio,” a stirring recollection of on “Amnesia,” and the delicate, intimate tale of loss on “Empty Room.” Across the album’s nine songs, Hamilton surely gets personal, speaking her truth of resilience and perseverance.

Recovery Songs is available to stream today on all platforms, including Spotify. You can also purchase the album via Bandcamp. Through January 1st, 2021, all proceeds from Bandcamp purchases benefit The Trevor Project, an organization that focuses on suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ Youth.
