Teen Idle - "Seasons (Goodbye, Summer Sun)" b/w "Where Is The Sun?"

If you take a quick glance at the two new Teen Idle singles, “Seasons (Goodbye, Summer Sun)” and “Where Is The Sun,” you may wager that they sound the same given their strikingly similar titles. Though the two tracks each allude to the disappearance of that bright shining star that sustains all life on earth, they have some striking differences that make for some diverse and dynamic sonic interplay.

Specifically, “Seasons (Goodbye, Summer Sun)” is incandescent.  It flourishes with fluffy guitars that run on parallel tracks, as a shimmering riff guides more subdued guitar strums. Though there are little sparks of brightness in the lead guitar, the overall mood is melancholic, representing the waning nature of light as the seasons change. “Where Is The Sun” moves delicately and feels more ominous overall, opening with bleak sounding keys that resemble a church organ. Frontperson Sara Barry applies some effects that obscure her vocals, allowing them to seamlessly weave in between lush guitars and synths. In combination, the two songs are the perfect dream-pop soundtrack for a crisp fall afternoon, especially as the days become darker and shorter.

Oh, and here’s a fun fact: “Where Is The Sun?” originally appeared on Songs From Quarantine: A Compilation.  Barry is credited as Sire Francis Fake. You can snag a copy of it via Bandcamp.
