Wizard Brain - "Here We Go"

Wizard Brain - "Here We Go"

“Here We Go,” the latest single from New Jersey’s Wizard Brain (the project of musician Bobby Kirner), has several clear-cut markings that proudly display its 90s indie rock foundation and influence. Its sound is styled in a way that meets at a fork in the road, one path leads to the boppy power-pop rhythms of The Lemonheads, one to the distorted, but punchy guitars of Sebadoh, and the other to the crafty lyricism of Stephen Malkmus. It’s a collision of styles that doesn’t lean too heavily into each one, allowing Kirner to highlight his melodic prowess through guitars and vocals that combine to sound simultaneously breezy and a little gruff. The song’s somewhat frantic pace also adds to its slacker rock charm, as the vocal hooks roll out quickly and unrelentingly, particularly in the bouncy chorus. They’re preceded by an “uh oh,” so you’ll know exactly when they land.

“Here We Go” will appear on Wizard Brain’s forthcoming album In The Morning of the Sun. You can purchase the track on Bandcamp or stream it on Spotify. Keep up with Wizard Brain by liking them on Facebook and following them on Instagram.
