Broken Baby - “The Perfect Song”

Los Angeles’ Broken Baby challenged themselves to write the perfect song in a month’s time. I’m no songwriter, but that can’t be easy. In an Instagram video posted in mid-May, the duo of Amber Bollinger and Alex Dezen discussed the plan over breakfast, and following said meeting, executed it to perfection, literally. An impressive feat, but that’s not a surprise. They’re an impressive duo.

With an on-the-nose title, “The Perfect Song” crafts a winning formula that leads off with a tongue-in-cheek radio ID for LOSER RADIO, before launching into a certified ripper of a tune. Dezen provides some absolutely infectious riffage as Bollinger launches into a clever tirade on the toll that striving for modern-day perfection can take. The final verse also perfectly captures the quite relatable feeling of FOMO (fear of missing out for the uninitiated): “Don’t wanna miss out on anything. Keeping up despite all my migraines. Don’t want to miss out on anything. Even if it’s my own suffering.”
