PONS - “CAN'T STAND IT"

PONS - “CAN'T STAND IT"

Brooklyn’s PONS are one of the hardest-working bands in the whole city. The trio hardly rests. Throughout the past few years, it seems like they’ve constantly been on tour or blowing the roof off of local establishments across New York. And yes, playing live and traveling across the states and Europe is grueling in and of itself, but PONS puts a ton of energy into their performances. I’ve seen them multiple times; trust me, they never mail it in. So, their ability to get up on stage night after night is a marvel of youthful exuberance.

PONS’ dissonant, no-wave-inspired sound harkens back to a purer era of New York City music. Their emphasis on the performance aspect of their live shows obviously cannot fully translate into the recorded medium, but “CAN’T STAND IT” is pretty damn close. It’s bristling with the kind of frenetic energy and unrelenting percussion that you can expect in droves at a PONS’ gig. Try to catch their next show, but if you can’t, just close your eyes, turn up this track, and picture it on the back of your eyelids.
