Mirrorball - “Take A Shot”
Sometimes taking a chance requires a lot of guts, especially when life’s unpredictability can seem downright frightening. Los Angeles dream pop duo Mirrorball knows this all too well. They tackle the topic with aplomb on their brand new single, “Take A Shot,” which revels in effervescent layers of guitars and synthesizers while envisioning an idyllic world where risk-taking may just reap those hard sought-after rewards.
Melancholic and wispy, Alexandra Johnstone’s gentle, lulling vocals are a cornerstone of the track. Her words start out somewhat specific, as she briefly alludes to a few down-on-their-luck characters before shifting her focus to more all-encompassing advice. The song’s mood evolves as it progresses, steadily assuming a posture aligned with throwing caution to the wind. “Take a shot with all you got,” Johnstone confidently sings, “And may you never be sorry again” - an uplifting message that’s delivered against an ascending backdrop of lush and twinkling instrumentation.
