Julez and the Rollerz - "Wildest Fantasy"
Things are looking up for Los Angeles’ Julez and the Rollerz. The garage rock project of songwriter Jules Batterman has been prepping for the release of their promising new EP, Is This Where The Party Is?, and the singles shared in the lead-up have been nothing short of fresh-sounding, lively, and impressive. Batterman has all but mastered the art of surf-inspired, garage rock songwriting, as her compositions have all the makings of the classics of the genre. The guitars are tinged with just the right amount of fuzz, the gooey vocal harmonies add a dash of sugar to the formula, and the rhythm section always seems to hold down the perfect groove. It’s a distinctly west coast sound that I never get tired of hearing.
“Wildest Fantasy,” the project’s latest offering, bolsters an already solid catalog. The song, which lyrically chronicles the challenges of the modern-day music industry, is a real mid-tempo, toe-tappin’ stomper with lots of ear-wormy nuggets, from the precisely placed harmonies to the theatrical guitar riffs, and the ascending vocal melodies. The project’s sound on “Wildest Fantasy” is sunnily reminiscent of other great bands of the garage-psych ilk, like Boytoy and Bleached, so fans of those bands, give “Wildest Fantasy” a listen.
