Wizard Brain - “Happy Soul / Keep on Groovin”

Bobby Kirner, the songwriter behind New Jersey’s Wizard Brain, is gearing up for a big 2022. His third full length, And When The Sky Was Open, is on the horizon, and late last month, he shared the record’s lead single, a chill, psychedelic rumination on staying centered called “Happy Soul / Keep on Groovin.”

If this past weekend’s unseasonable warmth in northern New Jersey elevated your mood, “Happy Soul / Keep on Groovin” will help extend that high. Similar to songs like “Butterflies/Early Morning” and “Lemon Sky” from Kirner’s 2020 album In the Morning of the Sun, this song radiates warm sonic vibes and lyrically, imparts a bit of wisdom about going with the flow through life’s ups and downs. Kirner’s acoustic strums make it go down easy and his singing is nicely complemented by touches of synthesizers, chirping birds, and sweet backing vocals from Em Noll. The final verse of “Happy Soul / Keep on Groovin” gives an extra little nudge to to get you over the hump: “It’s okay gotta keep movin’. Gotta keep groovin’ now.”
