Sir Synthesis - "Bésame"

Sir Synthesis - "Bésame"

The four members of Sir Synthesis may look familiar to you. That’s because bassist Justin Viant, guitarist Arlo Bloom, and rhythm guitarist Royer Zamu were all original members of Union City’s The Lo-Fi’s, a band that persevered through several lineup changes and made waves in the greater New York City music scene thanks to their energetic live shows and dreamy, jangle-pop sound. They quietly disbanded in 2020 and Sir Synthesis formed shortly thereafter, expanding greatly on their former project’s sound. While the Lo-Fi’s took their musical cues from early 2010s lo-fi dream pop like Mac Demarco and Beach Fossils, Sir Synthesis is, quite literally, a melting pot of both sonic and cultural influences, fusing contemporary indie rock sensibilities with the sounds and feelings of its members Latin American backgrounds.

Though the band has been gigging fairly regularly over the last year, “Bésame” is their first recorded offering, and the vibe it captures is just right. The song’s rhythmic undercurrent clearly has foundations outside of what you’d expect from a rock band, instead resembling something almost mambo-like. It’s deliberate moving, smooth, and way more groove-centric - overlaid with the kind of chiming, twin-guitar work heard on Lo-Fi tracks like “Lemon Queen” and “Mindsweeper.”

Sir Synthesis also dropped their second single, “Walk True,” which you can listen to on Spotify. Keep up with the band by following them on Instagram.
