LKFFCT - "Space Abound"

LKFFCT are at the point in their career where you can count on them to deliver the good shit time and time again. Over the last few years, they’ve reliably and consistently churned out great music, whether it’s the high energy rockers featured on their 2018 EP Cayenne or the sharply melodic tunes heard on their 2017 full length, Dawn Chorus. The North Jersey quartet has been playing together for almost a decade, and by virtue of the well developed chemistry that comes with that kind of longevity, their latest tracks stand tall as some of the tightest and catchiest in their growing catalog. “Apple Pie” was a good old American indie rock ripper and “Bubble Bath” really resonated due in large part to its lyrical focus, which grappled with aging and losing interest in activities that previously sparked joy. Last week, the band shared their first new music of 2021, another compelling track called “Space Abound.”

“Space Abound” is full of lots of wit and clever observations, and like “Bubble Bath,” delves into the monotony of life, day to day feelings of anxieties, and the desire for escape. The guitars sound decidedly spacier at times, particularly in the instrumental interlude, but not in a way that detracts from the song’s hook-heavy foundation. The choruses pack more of a punch and there’s a mini-shred fest about three quarters of the way through, but the track definitely has a softer edge to it overall - one that sonically mirrors the floaty feeling of weightlessness.
