Joy Cleaner - "Nervous Purr"
Joy Cleaner surprised us on Friday with a new single called “Nervous Purr.” It’s a down-tempo power-pop tune that sounds like it’s addressing a relationship gone sour, but nevertheless, the track has been a ray of light during this dark summer. If you enjoyed the band’s more ballad-y numbers like “I’m Not From Some Other Dimension” from their debut Total Hell and “So Much For The Quiet Car” from You’re So Jaded, then you’ll certainly love the ruminative and steady sounds of “Nervous Purr.”
The song was originally recorded during the sessions for You’re So Jaded, and although it didn’t make the final cut, that’s not a slight at its quality. It’s a strong and catchy track. Bassist Kyle Wilkerson and guitarist Joey DeGroot continue to showcase their solid power-pop instincts on “Nervous Purr” with a melancholy melody and some tight-knit harmonies. They’re so adept at capturing that 90s era power-pop sound that if you didn’t know any better, you’d think this was an unreleased Velvet Crush track that appeared on that band’s own B-Side collection, Pre-Teen Symphonies.
You can purchase “Nervous Purr” via Bandcamp. The band also released a Simpsons inspired shirt to coincide with the release of the single. All proceeds from sales of the single and the shirt benefit Fair Fight. I also highly recommend picking up vinyl copies of Total Hell and You’re So Jaded. Keep up with Joy Cleaner by liking them on Facebook and following them on Instagram.
