Tetchy - "Quitter"
For a band that’s only officially released one song up until last week, Tetchy have made quite the impact on the Brooklyn music scene in the early stages of their career. That’s likely because in that captivating single, entitled “Fascist,” the band acutely conveyed exactly what they’re all about: fast crunchy riffs, socially poignant lyrics, and a heavy, ripping rhythm section. It’s type of unbridled rock and roll that translates well to the live setting. I was lucky enough to catch them live last summer, roughly five months into their existence as a band, and they already exuded the poise and energy of a seasoned act. Now, almost a year after their formation, the quartet is officially releasing their second single, “Quitter,” which will appear on their soon to be released debut EP, Hounds.
“Quitter” is a bit different than “Fascist” in its acceleration, but the overall effect is just as powerful in both its sound and message. The track starts off despondently, as front-person Maggie Denning achingly confronts the frustration that comes with falling short. Soon thereafter, grunge-y riffs slowly start pouring in as the exasperation in Denning's voice slowly but surely simmers until it explodes into a cacophony of yelps and nail-biting guitar tones. It’s another strong track from a band that’s just getting started, and we can’t wait to hear what’s next.
Hounds is set for release on February 28th. The band will be celebrating at Our Wicked Lady on March 5th with Bethlehem Steel, Maneka, and Thin Lips.
