Cindy Cane - "The Darkness"

Cindy Cane is another prime example of a Brooklyn act that’s built up a bit of buzz and folklore around them. With a couple of infectious goth punk singles to their name, the five-piece, which is helmed by Tom Lescovich (The Coax) and rounded out by a cast of local standouts like Sharif Mekawy (Looms), David Van Witt (HNRY FLWR), and Shane O'Malley Firek (The Ferdy Mayne), garnered attention for their engaging and intense live performances. Their blood-red and jet black vampire-influenced aesthetic also turned more than a few heads, as did their ability to seamlessly mix several distinct genres like country, electro-pop, and post-punk into their eclectic sound.

On their latest single, “The Darkness,” Cindy Cane hones in on some creeping goth-pop tones that’ll surely send shivers down your spine. Though a demo version of this song has been out for quite some time, this fine-tuned edition cuts much deeper thanks to some tinkering that accentuates its darkest inclinations. The song thrives on lavish and haunting synths that are buttressed by a steady, pulsing rhythm section. The addition of some echoey and soul-stirring guitar riffs further enhance the track’s moody vibe, as Lescovich’s invigorating vocals pierce through dense flurries of reverb. The song builds up to a calamitous and droning ending where multiple sonic elements collide, creating a dark and frenzied twister of synths, guitars, and affecting vocals.

You can purchase “The Darkness” via Bandcamp. The song is also available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify.  Keep up with Cindy Cane by following them on Instagram and liking them on Facebook.  Stay tuned, as their debut full length is out next year.
