Johnny Dynamite - “Hey Join Me (You're Not Alone)”

Johnny Dynamite has been an integral part of several Brooklyn-based projects over the last few years. He’s maintained a steady presence behind the drum kit in goth-punk outfit Whiner and the new, but already wildly impressive, Ashjesus. Dynamite also dabbles in production, with credits that include Pecas’ enchanting 2018 debut EP, After Dark. Now, he’s stepping to the forefront with his first solo record, Heartbroken, which is set for release on Friday. 

“Hey Join Me (You’re Not Alone),” the recently released second single from Heartbroken, is both eerie and uplifting. The song directly confronts the isolation many city dwellers experience in their 20s, as they search for meaning, companionship, and fulfillment, but spins it into a relatable positive message. Sonically, the song builds off a solid goth and synth-pop foundation with glimmering synthesizers and a super tight drum machine beat, giving the song a dark mood that’s simultaneously tranquil and turbulent.
