SSSIV - "Blueberry"
ssiv is a new trio out of Copenhagen that was born out of a spontaneous, in-studio jam session that blossomed into a full-fledged project. The three musicians, Stephen (bass, guitar), Sara (drums), and Sasha (guitar, bass), developed an unspoken chemistry right off the bat, and that original meeting spawned deeper collaboration, eventually resulting in a four day recording session at a house in Nordfalster, Denmark. They came out on the other side with a batch of songs, which are officially out tomorrow.
In the spirit of their origin story, their debut album is a collection of eight songs: four improvisations and four compositions. We’re excited to premiere the first offering today, the soothing and ethereal “Blueberry.” The expansive track starts calm and sparse, collecting sonic treasures as it progresses. The percussion kicks in and the guitars spread out far and wide, weaving between angelic, reverberated vocal melodies, silkily stacked harmonies, and a steady bass line. The lyrics also add to the song’s floaty, mysterious atmosphere with lines like “then it hit me, but not really. As you walk around more slowly, this could be my one and only,” bolstering its mystique.
