Old Man of the Woods - "Dissolve"

We’re excited to premiere the video for “Dissolve” from Old Man of the Woods. The song is the title track from the project’s excellent 2020 EP and precedes the release of “Dissolve” remixes, which is out tomorrow. 

The ambient pop project of Richmond-based songwriter Miranda Elliott thrives on atmospheric textures and rich soundscapes that mimic natural settings and phenomena. Her 2020 EP, Dissolve, takes listeners through the thick shrouds of an aural forest with comforting, soft sounds that flow from her raw, delicate vocal delivery. As an individual track, “Dissolve” (and the accompanying video) are nicely representative of the EP’s overarching experience, as Elliot takes listeners on a journey through the woods. The song moves steadily with electronic accents that slowly unfold amongst echoey, layered vocals and harmonies that hauntingly float slightly beneath the surface. The music follows a visually stunning and picturesque wooded landscape with a light, foggy ghost-like figure that moves in between both bare and fir trees, out into a body of water, and ascents into mountains. Elliot collaborated with Canadian-based filmmakers Roman Betanzos and Gabriel Güeiros to bring her vision for the track to life. Betanzos and Güeiros were initially moved by the song’s sonic likeness to the “lush coastline of British Columbia,” and without question, they translated their first impressions quite well through this gorgeous video.
