Dale Jr. - "Sun Sickness"

“Sun Sickness,” the new single from Brooklyn’s Dale Jr., may make you feel a bit woozy and lovestruck. The interplay between DJ O'Loane’s harmonious vocals and his inviting guitar work has a kind of daydreaming inducing effect in the same way that The Posies do on Frosting The Beater. It’s hook-filled power-pop with ear-wormy melodies, but it’s not squeaky clean. It has a slight edge to it. I’m particularly referencing the little bit of fuzz that characterizes the song’s early riffs and the tinge of guitar crunch that sits below the vocals in the verses. O’Loane sounds like a Beach Boy in the ebullient choruses, which nicely tie the song together, as his dulcet voice and diction are surrounded by a kaleidoscopic wave of vibrant riffs. Turn this one up if you want to escape the winter for three minutes and nineteen seconds!
