MIIRRORS - "Nightwalk"
We’re thrilled to premiere “Nightwalk,” the latest single from rising Chicago act MIIRRORS. The band’s third release of 2020 is shrouded in dark mystery and swirls with waves of layered sounds. Once you learn that they recorded the song live at Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio with Gregoire Yeche and Brian Deck, things start to make a lot of sense, as the densely textured track has the unmistakable experimental markings of something that would emerge from Albini’s Chicago studio. The guitars slowly drip out, creeping softly into the mix before they become the distorted focal point of the song, further enhancing its already atmospheric mood. The guitar tones sound simultaneously warbly and delicate, and the introduction of some vibrant synths after the short intro completes the song’s luscious sound. The steady sonic sprawl of the instrumentation culminates with a harmonious blend of twin guitar interplay, evenly set “oohs,” and light flourishes of percussion. Lyrically, the words match the song’s supple rhythm and instrumentation, striking a contract between themes of new beginnings and self-delusion.
“Nightwalk” is the title track from the band’s debut EP, which is out today. You can purchase it via Bandcamp and stream it on Spotify.
