Nuns Honey - "Don't Call It"
We’re excited to premiere “Don’t Call It,” the new single from Nuns Honey. The latest track from the project of Brooklyn artist Tim Goodwin builds off of the vibrant and striking sonic foundation heard on his debut EP, Steep Action, by using lo-fi production methods to craft arrangements that are both bright and enchanting.
The sophisti-pop stylings of bands like Prefab Sprout and Roxy Music definitely leave their imprint on "Don't Call It,” with stuttering guitars and flashes of synths that add girth at just the right moments. The song’s moody rhythm transcends its minimalist instrumentation and coalesces with its lyrical themes, accelerating rapidly at times to mirror what Goodwin describes as an “anxiety about moving fast.” His voice conveys this apprehension at times, particularly, immediately before and after the bristling choruses, as he pulls back the sonic curtains, allowing muffled guitars to serve as the instrumental focal point while he softly utters the title phrase, “don’t call it, so far away.”
