Minaxi - "Bug"
We’re excited to premiere “Bug,” the newest single from Brooklyn shoegaze trio Minaxi. The song is the first track off of their forthcoming EP, Noor, which is the final installment in their Zia Fantasy trilogy of extended plays. The Hindi/Urdu word Noor translates to the "Divine Light,” and the songs on the euphoric songs on EP reflect the associated journey from normalcy through darkness and eventually into the divine light.
“Bug” is built off of a thick foundation of guitars that tussle and rumble, diving deep into a pool of vast darkness before re-emerging with shimmers of brightness. The guitar tones generally remain lush for the duration, but there’s a small section where they’re pared down to one that rings out into the empty space that surrounds it. By doing this, the instrumentation follows part of the thematic journey explored across the five songs on Noor. Lyrically, frontperson Shrenik Ganatra explores themes of lust and attraction, focusing on the deep connection between two people with lyrics like: “breathe into me / feel my breath / taste the blue / of my / stare.” The video for “Bug” centers on Ganatra’s face, exploring the gestures and emotions of love, attraction, and lust that the band explores in the lyrics and music. It was filmed by Mark Laubenheimer at the Mona Lisa studios in Bushwick with additional footage from Luisa Muhr.
Check out “Bug” below! The song is officially out this Friday, October 16th. Check it out on your streaming platform of choice. To coincide with the release of the single, the band will also be sharing a techno/dance remix version of the track. Keep up with the band by following them on Instagram and liking them on Facebook.
