Anna Copa Cabanna - "We Don't Sleep"
New York City multi-disciplinary artist and Go-Go dancer extraordinaire Anna Copa Cabanna just shared a dreamy video for her brand new song, “We Don't Sleep.” The track, which she co-wrote with Jesse Krakow (Shudder To Think, The Shaggs, Julee Cruise), feels like a shadowy dreamscape, complete with plenty of guitar distortion, Anna’s intoxicating vocals, and a hypnotic rhythm. The video, which is pretty Lynch-ian in nature, is both dark and mysterious, interposing shots of her singing with scenes of city streets, faded shots of Krakow playing guitar, people shuffling about on the subway, and more!
Anna shared the following about the process behind making the song and video:
Jesse sent me the music at the beginning of the lockdown when I was already looking back- like so many others. The night belongs to lovers, right? It was always so open and now it wasn't. I had many conversations with people about Mystery and Romance and Possibility in this new world (already a challenge with social media, phones, etc). The chords and distortion were that wonderful happy/sad combination that reminded me of the early 90s when I was full of youth and adventurous wonder, so the song came quickly. Remembering an epic night in the MOST messy, honest, romantic place I've been to - Berlin. It started with a David Lynch movie and then I rode on a complete stranger's bike, my arms wrapped around him until about lunchtime the next day. I had no idea where I was going and that was freedom. The video hopefully moves in the same way with that joyous moment at the end. You stayed up all night. Was it all a dream?
