Similar Kind - "Lost & Lonely"
Norwalk, Connecticut’s Similar Kind are wise beyond their years. The young quintet has spent the majority of this bizarre year churning out single after single of pure indie-pop gold - each release more satisfying than the last. From the lush dream pop of “Maria” to the glistening and rhythmic “Nobody Loves You,” the band is already quite skilled at writing catchy songs that slip into your ears and remain firmly stuck in your head for days on end.
Their latest single, “Lost & Lonely,” sees the band exploring the melancholy sounds of a ballad, as they slow down the tempo and utilize more guitar distortion to mirror lyrics that address feelings of separation, loss, and misdirection. The song’s shimmering synths guide it’s solemn mood as it traverses through the highs and lows of finding your way when you have no one to guide you through the darkness. The momentum really hits an apex of bubbling guitar distortion and a healthy heaping of shredding around the two-minute mark, before settling in for a gentle send-off.
The band also shared a great claymation video to go along with the single. It features an astronaut-looking figure wandering a distant planet! Check it out below.
