PYNKIE - "Love Theme"

PYNKIE - "Love Theme"

Pynkie has written her fair share of love songs and she has a great way of conveying the associated feelings of longing, indecision, conflict, and confusion.  I think my favorite from her first record, Neoteny, is “Shrinking Violet,” a track where she appears to confront conflicted feelings of platonic and romantic love for her partner.  She perfectly sums up the dilemma with what is, in my opinion, one of her finest lyrical moments: “I wish you were my older brother, so I could look up to you when I was young, when I was young, but then I couldn’t kiss you with my tongue.” It’s a brilliant lyric that wryly and cleverly expresses some confounding feelings.

On her latest love song, “Love Theme,” Pynkie describes a different type of dilemma - one where she pines to be with someone that doesn’t quite feel the same way, but she hopes to change their mind. Against the backdrop of a dreamy soundscape, she sings of unrequited love with seductive lines like “someday you’ll give me the time and I’ll blow your mind / someday you’ll give me the time and I’ll call you mine.” The sonically expansive track is smooth and soothing, featuring several celestial elements like floaty synths, spacey sound effects, and ringing guitars.

To go along with the song, Pynkie shared a fun stop animation video (directed by Daniel Sterlin-Altman) that follows the narrative of a rock that falls in love with a rubber duckie.  I won’t spoil the ending, but there’s a dramatic conclusion to the epic love story of the rock and rubber duckie that will make your jaw drop!

Stream “Love Theme” on your platform of choice.  The song is the second single from Pynkie’s forthcoming album #37, which you can pre-order now via Bandcamp. Keep up with Pynkie by liking her on Facebook and following her on Instagram
