Fair Visions - "A Way Out"

Fair Visions - "A Way Out"

Brooklyn post-punks Fair Visions released a series of pretty strong singles this year, so I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of their debut EP, A Way Out. The six-song collection dropped last Friday and it’s sound is brimming with locked-in grooves and blistering post-punk rhythms that bounce between dark and bright. I alluded to the late 80s Wire and New Order comparisons in the Song of the Week write up for the trio’s third single “Feels Right,” and fans of those bands synth-driven, electro-centric sounds will find more to enjoy on A Way Out.

The EP opens with one of the gloomier tracks, “Shitty Love Songs,” which centers around foggy synths and lyrics that explore feelings of detachment and disillusionment with the world.  “Feels Right” is fueled by a similarly nihilistic sentiment, but is decidedly more energetic and pummeling with some crisp, robotic beats. Two non-singles, “Relenting” and “Coming On,” are sandwiched in the middle and are united in their syrupy bass tones, soothing guitars, and textured synths - particularly on “Coming On,” which introduces flickers of almost piano-sounding riffs to juxtapose its hammering beat.  This airy vibe carries over onto “Lay Out In The Sun,” a more expansive and slow-burning hazy sauna of synths before the EP’s stark and tense closer, “A Goodbye.”

Listen to A Way Out on your streaming platform of choice.  You can also purchase the EP on Bandcamp.  Keep up with Fair Visions by liking them on Facebook and following them on Instagram.
