SODAPOP - "Right Back" // "Watered Down"
A new artist called SODAPOP popped onto my radar recently after he dropped two danceable summer jams, “Right Back” and “Watered Down,” to start the season off on the right foot. The bedroom pop songwriter, whose real name is Kane Nania, now calls Santa Barbara, California home, but he spent the last few years traveling the world, settling into Thailand for a spell and then Serbia - all the while utilizing his varied surroundings to write and record music. With these life experiences in tow, Nania delivers two unique sounding tracks that showcase his diversity as a writer within the parameters of bedroom pop. “Right Back” is the more reflective of the two songs, but it still manages to maintain a contagious beat throughout with Nania’s layered vocals driving the track. The lyrics speak to love lost, and Nania wrote the song on his last day living in Serbia, making it feel almost like an accounting of sorts for a particular chapter in his life. “Watered Down“ is anything but - it sounds vibrant and full of life, falling on the brighter side of the bedroom-pop genre. Nania injects some bouncy guitars in this one to go along with another driving, head-nodding beat. Add both tunes to your summer playlist immediately!
