Charlie Havenick - "Easy, Fire"

Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist Charlie Havenick is stepping to their forefront with her first-ever solo single, “Easy, Fire.” As a member of another L.A. group The Stamp Collection, Havenick, along with songwriting partner Ray Wilson, composed some seriously challenging music that fused unconventional time signatures with some heady math-rock riffs that could hang with the best of them.  “Easy, Fire” maintains some of those progressive and jazz-leaning elements, but her solo debut also sees Havenick heading in a direction that’s more light and folky.

On “Easy, Fire,” the guitars sound clean, the percussion is soft, and the lyrics are sharp. The lyrics and the song’s title allude to the recent spurt of wildfires in California, using these literal events as a focal point to expound on themes of love, uncertainty, and individualism. Havenick also gets full marks for throwing in a solid Pavement reference: “Pavement's always good to harness hopes in life.” Impressively, she plays all of the instruments on this feel-good song, including the sparkling bursts of brass sprinkled throughout and a righteous saxophone solo at the tail end.

You can purchase “Easy, Fire” via Bandcamp. The song is also available to stream on Spotify. Follow Charlie on Instagram.
