Puddlejumper - "Blue Glass"
Puddlejumper are the fairly new Massachusetts-based dream-pop project of songwriter Soleil Engin and vocalist Hannah Wilson-Black. The two friends started the project while studying at the University of Chicago and released their beautiful debut single, “Green And Grey” back in June. We totally dug it and included it on the Look At My Records!: June 2020 Playlist. Now, the duo is back with their second single, “Blue Glass,” an equally soft and alluring bedroom pop tune that deals with the hardships of separation.
Like their debut single, “Blue Glass” maintains a similar kind of lo-fi melancholy with distant-sounding and emotive vocals that blend well with reverb-soaked guitars and feather-light drums. This warm bedroom styled recording approach gives the song a very personal and intimate feel - with echoing vocals and guitars that sound as if they’re bouncing off the walls of an empty room, a sonic experience that complements the lyrics well. Their words describe a familiar scenario, one where the distance from your loved ones results in overwhelming feelings of loneliness and isolation. Wilson-Black conveys these emotions with an aching conviction, particularly as she becomes nostalgic, but accepts the passage of time: “Your eyes lost in mine / Breaking clocks, stopping time / Knowing things will never survive.”
Stay tuned, as “Green And Grey” and “Blue Glass” will appear on Puddlejumpers debut EP, which is out later this year.
You can purchase “Blue Glass” via Bandcamp. All proceeds from sales of “Blue Glass” and “Green And Grey” will go directly to Brave Space Alliance and Trans Women of Color Collective. The song is also available on streaming platforms, including Spotify.
