Groupie - "Half Wave"
“Half Wave,” the brand new single from Brooklyn’s Groupie, packs the type of punch that we’re used to hearing from this sharp post-punk act. It rumbles from the opening riff, unrelentingly barrelling forward with gusto through surfy guitars and a Combat Rock-esque groove. The song struts along with a strident and empowered rhythm, as guitarist Johanna Kenney and bassist Ashley Kossakowski turn their focus towards unrealistic expectations in dating. The lyrics are at times cleverly facetious, with some whip-smart lines that convey a high level of exasperation. Kossakowski explained that she “wrote [the] song coming out of the detritus of a terrible relationship, realizing that while many people have impossible criteria for the person they're with, I need to have many more... more dating people who didn't know how to boil water before they met me!” That’s sound advice for all single twenty-somethings who are searching for their perfect, or not so perfect, match.
“Half Wave” is the first single from Groupie's debut full-length, Ephemeral, which is due out later this year. You can purchase the song, along with the rest of the band’s discography, on Bandcamp.
